Can you believe we’re talking about Christmas already? All of our turkeys were born in the middle of July; they’re so tiny and very vulnerable at the moment so our farmer Stuart (pictured below) has to keep them inside warm brooding sheds for their first 4-6 weeks to keep them safe.
You can see from the pictures, for their first month or so the birds are incredibly fluffy, but very soon they will grow their hard feathers which enables them to resist the rain and keep warm.
We’ll have to wait for September until they can roam free around Stuart’s farm; at that time they should be strong enough to withstand any bad weather and just about large enough to put off any potential birds of prey such as buzzards and red kites.
We’ll keep you posted with how they’re doing.
